This month has been extremely busy. I haven’t been able to post quite as often as I’d like. I also haven’t had the time to comment on a lot of other bloggers’ sites so I apologize for that. Between work and personal life, the blog was put on the back burner. My wife is thinking of leaving her full-time job. We’ll see how that plays out. In the mean time, I’ll at least be posting my trades and monthly updates to let everyone know what I’m buying.
Below is a summary of my activity for the month:
New Purchases: $10,603.00 (NET)
$1250 of ESV
$850 of AWR
$700 of BP
$450 of DE
$200 of UL
76 shares of ESV – $2968
100 shares of UL – $4185
Posts about new purchases can all be found by following the “Buys” label here.
I didn’t have any positions I closed but I opened a few new positions by selling puts in ESV and WFM. I’m thinking of making a purchase of Whole Foods eventually. They are headquartered here in Austin and I love everything about the store.
My total profit for the year is $1670.00.
I’ve updated all of these trades on my Options tab and you can find these trades on my options label.

I earned $1491.62 in dividends for the month. This is an increase of 41% from the same month last year. My total year-to-date dividend income is $7555.53. This is 75.6% toward my goal of $10,000 in dividends for the year. Since 3/4 of the year is now gone, I slightly ahead of pace with this goal and shouldn’t have a problem breaking $10k.
I’ve updated my dividend income on my Dividends tab.
Forward 12-month Dividends:
My expected forward 12-month dividend income has increased to $11,799.56 (including $409.54 from
You can find all of my monthly dividend information from the Dividends page.
The following 4 companies in my portfolio increased their dividends this month.
I’ve now had 32 companies increase dividends so far this year.
These increases can also be found on my Dividend Increases label.
No new goals completed. My next goal met will likely be to reach 800k in net worth.
These goals can be found on the Goals tab.
All 3 rental properties are leased for at least 7 more months. The tenants at one of my properties have let the grass go in the front lawn. I’ve talked to them about getting it seeded and back to original condition in order to not receive any HOA fines. This is in the works.
You can find my latest electric bill and any other solar updates here.
All of my other real estate posts will be found on my real estate label.
I’m now at $751k, down from $775k. This large $24k drop is due to the zillow value of my primary residence dropping a significant amount. The markets also didn’t do too well.
You can find the details of this on my Net Worth page.
New Articles This Month (in case you missed these):
There were no notable new articles this month as I was super busy. I hope to have a few for October.
My expected dividends for October are $536 which is one of my slower months so that is expected.
I am on track with my goal of 10k in dividend income. My forward goal of 14k isn’t going to happen. However, I’m close to a nice milestone of $12k in forward income which is $1k/month. $1000 each month can pay for a lot of expenses. I’m excited to hit this mark by next month.
I’m still using Motif Investing and am thinking about another purchase. I haven’t decided whether I’m making a larger purchase of IBM or CSCO, or I just keep balancing the DOW 30 components.
After the sell of INTC, I’m lacking in technology stocks. Another tech stock I’m looking at is NTAP. This isn’t a big deal as I am not a huge fan of the whole sector since it’s so hard to build a sustainable moat.
I’ve also been eyeing MAT and ARCP but mainly just adding to current positions that are underweight. I also plan to slow down purchases in the energy sector since it makes up such a large weight now.
